Why is H-alpha so popular? Are there low cost ways to look at fine detail of events and processes on the sun? Multiple frequencies? Energies, densities, temperatures, velocities, concentrations, entropy measures, etc? I am finding more and more groups sharing data about the sun on the Internet, and some of it is accessible in lossless open formats. But comparing results from groups is rather hit and miss. Everyone seems to be straining to see things that convey meaning to them. “That feels right”. But much of that seems a bit random. Sorry to pose such broad questions, I am just trying to understand “the sun” on the Internet, the people and groups, methods and data and purposes. And I have my own hunches about “what is going on – on and inside the sun”.

There are about 5.4 Billion humans using the Internet, and they face an increasingly chaotic Internet with no maps or guides. Not even for something as simple as “the sun”.
