“Papers and grants” at global Internet scale is not a fair and open system.
It is not a fair and open marketplace. There is no fair review process. There is no oversight. There is no recourse when big bullies beat up little people. You are asking the wrong question and glorifying competition, when the really large things are done by global collaboration – in competition with the normal parasitic actions of small groups (a million is small now on the Internet) are “competing” by devouring the weak.
Stop playing the game. Spend 100 hours and focus on what you feel is important to do in the remainder of your life. Stop churning out grants and papers. I check things like whether any grants and projects are used on the Internet and it is a resounding “no!”. Trace it out. Any project, no matter how many $Millions or $Billions will be decaying before it ends. The grants churn out ill prepared and follow the sheep paper writers. Not survivors or innovators.
I love universities. I still review them and look for signs of change. They baby s lot of kids from 18 to 38 now. It seems like useful activity and we have convinced ourselves that if you pay a million dollars to go to college, is must be worth it.
This topic requires more than talk. I hardly bother any more to write, when a model is more revealing and the real knowledge is in the data, not in papers, and not in blogs.
