Post: Milli Micro Nano Pico Femto Atto assembly at Industrial, Development, Lab, Factory, Home and Personal Scale
I was reading https://nature.com/articles/s41467-024-50023-7 and know that 2D control surfaces with 2D video patterns, and 3D controlled volumetric video signals with its 3D video formats — can be used to control even up to very high frame rate using CMOS and even newer 2D/3D controls in time. That is a mouthful, because there are so many different groups using the same technologies but different properties.
Here I suggest that this paramagnetic colloidal method could be controlled in real micron sized voxels, or smaller, by simply “playing a 3D volumetric control and assembly dataset” for infinitely long processes that are highly periodic or where there is sufficient memory.
And a good place to use that is to simplify protein folding, or micro assembly of chemicals and atoms. Chemistry and, particularly, synthetic biochemistry now is performed by manipulating bonds in networks. But stable and reliable “assembly control sequences” in 3D can be as simple as G code in 3D printers (which itself needs improving). Going beyond “legs” for walking, give “hands”, “grippers”, “assembly lines”, “drilling”, “cutting”, “shaping”, “holding”, “carrying”, “plating”, “coating”, “texturing” and a long list (hundreds of thousands or more) of action terms.
When we harvest naturally occurring mechanisms from living things, they have been shaped by evolution. But guided evolution of workable actions and a workable micrometer and nanometer and picometer work environments – is used routinely now.
Can it be scaled to “industrial” size? Metric tons?Thousands of metric tons? Millions of metric tons? Or lab and development community size? (grams, KiloGrams, MegaGram, GigaGram, milliGram) sizes. I apologize for the word soup. The words have to work in open development communities where legacy computer instructions are still the norm. CamelCase is very useful in many situations to keep parsing easy and readable by humans and AIs.
I have been trying to standardize the units and names on the Internet for ALL the interactions where new industries are being created and worked on – on the whole Internet, in the whole world. Using more carefully constructed terms, prefixes and combinations, allows standardizing the processing, use and analysis, search and combining of whole industrial and lab and development scale efforts. Usually ALL those scales act at once. It is NOT impossible.
Decades ago I had a chance to learn how industrial chemistry was done at Phillips Petroleum, all its processes, and all its products and components. I wanted to introduce and use magnetic, electric, electromagnetic and similar powerful and 3D specific methods of assemble. “Colloidal” is only one of many (I prefer inorganic) tools for 3D assembly.
These are getting close to “Maxwell Demons” and “molecular and atomic workers”. “Finite automata” and “3D volumetric shaping”. I am thinking of “holodeck”, “3D volumetric displays”, and the 3D environments in billions of dollar scale chemical units, space engines, space industrial sites, moon and Mars factories, and remote high energy density sites. But also earth based, human usable, appropriate and sustainable and green technologies where a 3D molecular and atomic 3D printer can be modified to make safe and reliable foods and chemical intermediates.
The 3D videos, with AI methods for memory now, can simply be treated as controls to make things. Yes, it takes time to standardize and share globally accessible sequences and datasets. But once that is done, every group is NOT making their own local way of expressing universally needed concepts and methods.
You all might only be looking at this year, next decade th ings, but I have had to look at evolution of such things over 100s, 1000s and 1E9 years at picoSecond resolution.
Please, “Nature Communication” and “Nature Communities” work toward methods on the Internet that work for ALL groups at all sites on the Internet. Publishers, authors, groups, industries, governments and social media, open groups, shared resource sites – all are doing the same things — but using locally different ways of expressing, building, maintaining and sharing.
If you would make “Nature Communities” standard, and NOT aim for “Nature monopolies and hegemony” but “global open resources”, “sustainable global sharing of knowledge” and such things. There are about 8.2 Billion humans now, and most of them, enabled with global open Internet assistance and tools – can run a “3D molecular and atomic assembly unit”.
The SEMI community is trying to standardize and open its fabrication language and methods and make it universal (space and earth). In principle all humans of any age can already send instructions to fabricate semiconductor things. But that idea has spread to all things and all scales, so “print real sized robots made of microRobot parts” is already part of human culture and society.
I do not know if this is making sense to most people who read this. I have spent the last 26 years refining this kind of thing for the whole Internet. But I am getting old and tired. The ideas and directions are correct. Many people and groups are working in parallel asynchronously, but without global standards down to nano and pico and femto scales. But global and heliospheric industries are growing NOW – where local groups are building their own monopolies and pursuing hegemony on fundamental methods.
Rather make your entire “Nature Community” open, visible, accessible from anywhere, but for the human species, NOT a few investor and individuals controlling “Nature”.
