{"id":2182,"date":"2021-08-10T11:05:16","date_gmt":"2021-08-10T11:05:16","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=2182"},"modified":"2021-08-10T11:15:07","modified_gmt":"2021-08-10T11:15:07","slug":"broken-links-on-pcmdi-llnl-gov-global-climate-change-models","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/?p=2182","title":{"rendered":"Broken Links on PCMDI.LLNL.gov &#8211; Global Climate Change Models"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"default-style\">Karl,<\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Here are some notes on broken links and bad practices.\u00a0 I put notes on my search for climate models.\u00a0 I do these rough searches to get started on a complete review of a topic group on the Internet.\u00a0 Picking a hard enough problem at global scale is the only way to stay organized and keep all the issues and alternatives in mind.<\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">I was visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/pcmdi.llnl.gov\/CMIP6\/Guide\/dataUsers.html\">https:\/\/pcmdi.llnl.gov\/CMIP6\/Guide\/dataUsers.html<\/a> and tried the link to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/es-doc.org\/cmip6-performance\">Computer hardware performance <\/a><\/strong>with link <a href=\"https:\/\/es-doc.org\/cmip6-performance\">https:\/\/es-doc.org\/cmip6-performance<\/a>.\u00a0 Broken.<\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">At <a href=\"https:\/\/pcmdi.llnl.gov\/index.html\">https:\/\/pcmdi.llnl.gov\/index.html<\/a> is says, &#8220;Please report any missing content&#8221;. and the &#8220;Report Issue&#8221; goes to GitHub.io which is not user friendly.\u00a0 Just put a form.\u00a0 From the sparce content at Github.io, it does not look used. Generally Github is NOT reliable issue handling system, too diffuse and too many single points of failure.<\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">Your &#8220;About&#8221; pulldown has Overview, Staff, Location.\u00a0 There should be a consistent &#8220;contact us&#8221; on every one of your pages.\u00a0 I can suggest efficient ways to do that.<\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 120px;\">site:pcmdi.llnl.gov shows 2,660 entry points on Google just now.<\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">EVERY page should have a full title, not <a href=\"https:\/\/pcmdi.llnl.gov\/index.html\">https:\/\/pcmdi.llnl.gov\/index.html<\/a> &#8220;<strong>Home<\/strong>&#8221; but &#8220;Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Program for Climate Model Diagnosis and Intercomparison (LLNL PCMDI)&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>I am looking for the source code of the models.\u00a0<\/strong> I know your group is only looking at a piece of the whole, but every node in the &#8220;global climate&#8221; modeling network should have complete context information to never leave anyone without a map to know where they are in the global model space.<\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">As it is now, every page that mentions &#8220;global climate change&#8221; or &#8220;climate models&#8221; is designed, maintained and managed independently.\u00a0 No uniform practices, much much duplication.\u00a0 No two pages using similar styles, navigation, components, much duplication.\u00a0 Every person trying to work on this topic, and every new person (there are about 2 Billion first time learners in the world now) has to sort through this mess on the Internet.\u00a0 Adding new pages that no one can find is not the answer.<\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\" style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">&#8220;global climate change&#8221;
